Mackem

You wrote this: "If you want to hire someone to help improve your product documentation just drop me an email"

Do you see any job openings you like on the HDS.com site? If so, send me an email at jeremiah.owyang@hds.com

Yes, we hire the best --I can tell you'd fit right in.

We hear you Mackem and Snig --we're trying to do just that.

We know that the collective wisdom of all of our customers put together is amazing (and maybe even more amazing that what we know at HDS) so we've just launched the HDS Storage Forums.

http://forums.hds.com/

We really would like you to swing by and leave your thoughts, ask some questions and interact with other customers. Some of our best product folks are helping out until the forum has a life of it's own (and then some). And we'll certainly recognize (and maybe reward) the true storage mavens.

And Snig, feel free to spread the word as appropriate, I know the audience you command.

I think you hit the nail on head here Mackem. Part of the reason I started RM.com back in the day was to get the end users to share their knowledge. We have struggled getting user to send in information up to now, but we do have a few people who contribute and are open with the things they know. I think that part of that reason is because they think that if they let their "secret" out, then they won't make as much money on their next contract. I don't think that is the case, but until people get over that feeling then the storage user community just isn't going to grow like the other IT communities out there.

EMC has started something decent with PowerLink and Brocade has a good site with Brocade Connect. The rest of the vendors need to get up to speed and let their users learn more about their products, either from their peers or from product experts.

I do know one of the vendors you mentioned above is working on just this thing right now, but I won't let the cat out of the bag before the announce it officially.

Thanks again for the post and I'm looking forward to seeing more.
